CONNECTING COMMUNITY THROUGH COMPASSION.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Suffolk AME Cares Foundation is a registered non-profit organization that helps our members give back to the communities where they live and serve. The dedicated members of Suffolk AME prioritize the well-being of our community and understand the importance of playing an active role in supporting local causes. The Suffolk AME Cares Foundation aims to empower our members to participate in charitable work and volunteerism, making a positive impact in Suffolk County and the greater Labor community. By empowering our members to support the causes they care deeply about, the Suffolk AME Cares Foundation fosters a sense of community and builds upon the already existing culture of altruism amongst our ranks.

FROM SUFFOLK AME PRESIDENT DANIEL C. LEVLER

“The Suffolk AME Cares Foundation helps empower our members to give back to the communities in which they live and work and to support the causes they care deeply about, building upon the spirit of altruism that thrives amongst our ranks. In addition to serving our friends, neighbors, and loved ones throughout the community, the Suffolk AME Cares Foundation gives our members one more way to support one another. When our members experience unforeseen circumstances that derail their lives, such as a house fire or a tragedy, we can stand in solidarity and offer support through AME Cares.”

OUR INITIATIVES

  • Each year, the Mayday Music Festival serves as a celebration of the contributions of all working men and women, while simultaneously raising awareness for the continued success of the Labor movement as it evolves into the modern era.

A wholly non-profit endeavor presented in partnership between Suffolk AME and the Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, the Mayday Music Festival is a family-friendly single-day music festival, with all net proceeds funding charitable causes. In addition to fostering a sense of solidarity amongst our local brothers and sisters in Labor, the Mayday Music Festival gives back to a number of causes, from providing scholarships for union members and their families to helping to put food on our neighbors’ tables through our support of Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank. In addition to donating a portion of proceeds from the event, the Mayday Music Festival also serves as an in-person Food Drive for Long Island Cares, allowing guests to bring a non-perishable food item for donation at the festival entrance.

  • Our annual Golf Invitational offers a fun-filled day on the links while also supporting a worthy cause. It provides an excellent opportunity for networking and building connections among individuals and organizations committed to making a difference. This event brings together a vibrant mix of people, all united in their dedication to supporting the AME Scholarship Fund.

Each year, friends, colleagues, and our brothers and sisters in Labor from around the County join us for our highly anticipated annual Golf Invitational. With a healthy turnout from State and Local Elected Officials, Community Leaders, and our fellow leaders from the world of Labor, proceeds from our Golf Outing are generously donated to the AME Scholarship Fund. Suffolk AME Scholarships are given annually to both our members and the children and grandchildren of Suffolk AME members as part of our efforts to ensure a skilled, dedicated, and educated workforce for Suffolk County.

  • An ambitious project and a major win for inclusivity and accessibility in Suffolk County, Serenity Gardens will serve as a first-of-its-kind park specifically designed for special needs groups, while at the same time, providing a soothing environment for all. Situated on the beautiful grounds of Brookwood Hall Park in East Islip, Serenity Gardens benefits from a picturesque location that complements its mission. The park will cater to people who are visually and/or hearing impaired, on the autism spectrum, or suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, and will be inviting to seniors, veterans, and the general public.

This park will not only serve Suffolk AME members and their families by providing a welcoming atmosphere that is accessible to everyone, but it is our very members who provide the programs and services that our seniors, veterans, and special needs groups depend on to thrive. Serenity Gardens represents a significant step towards fostering an inclusive and accessible community in Suffolk County, complimenting the work our members already perform each and every day. Serenity Gardens will offer an exceptional opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to experience the profound benefits of nature in a safe and welcoming space.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the president of Suffolk AME, Dan Levler, emphasized the importance of designing projects for people of all abilities.

“This was a perfect opportunity to find a way to address a need within our population and work with a larger, very busy group of people to achieve something that I think is going to be great,” shared Levler. “I think it will be a destination for a lot of people, and very much provide the serenity that the name speaks to.”
